The late-1970s FXE kept the 1200 cc OHV twin and four-speed chain-drive layout but gained twin front discs and a larger rear disc, while the quoted output dropped to 58 hp. In 1979 the kick-start FX left the range, leaving the electric-start FXE as the core Super Glide, now joined by spin-offs such as the Low Rider and Fat Bob.
