The production XR1200 turned the 2006 prototype into a sport-styled Sportster, with a tuned 1200 Evolution engine making about 91 hp, inverted Showa forks, twin four-piston Nissin front brakes and an aluminium swingarm. It launched in Europe in 2008 and reached the US for 2009, mainly in Mirage Orange. Reviewers liked its handling and strong low-end torque but noted its weight and limited cornering clearance.
