Harley showed this sporty Sportster prototype in Cologne to see how European riders and the press would react. The styling copied the XR-750 dirt tracker, and it had an air-cooled 1200 V-twin with downdraft injection, inverted Showa forks, four-piston Nissin brakes and specially developed Dunlop tyres on cast wheels. The reaction was good enough that a production XR1200 followed in 2008, at first only for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
