The CB1000 Custom was a one-year model for 1983 that replaced the CB900C, enlarging its DOHC air-cooled four to 973 cc. It kept the custom-styled, shaft-drive layout aimed at American riders, including the unusual two-range sub-transmission that turned five gears into ten, and added TRAC anti-dive to the air-assisted front fork. Heavy and softly sprung, it was more of a comfortable cruiser-tourer than a sporting bike.
