The 1981 Hawk kept the 1980 engine and six-speed gearbox but got updated styling with a new tank shape and plastic front fender, a dual-piston front brake caliper, air-assisted forks and revised instruments, bringing it close to the European CB400N Super Dream. Road testers praised its balance and handling, but found the seat hard and the footpegs limited cornering clearance.
