The CBR1000RR (SC57) replaced the 954 in 2004 with a 998 cc engine and a chassis that borrowed heavily from Honda MotoGP engineering: a long swingarm, Unit Pro-Link rear suspension mounted in the swingarm, a centrally placed fuel tank, under-seat exhaust and radial front brakes. It also introduced Honda's electronic speed-sensitive steering damper. Tests rated its stability and braking highly but found its engine less explosive than the GSX-R1000.
