The 1986 CBR400R replaced the CBR400F with a liquid-cooled engine and fully enclosed bodywork in the style of the CBR600F and CBR1000F Hurricane, earning the 'Aero' nickname. Compression went up, the rear end moved to a single shock and claimed dry weight dropped compared with the 400F. It was a Japanese-market sports 400 pitched between road comfort and track style.
