For 1997 the F3 received a revised cylinder head, reworked ignition and ram-air for a smoother power curve, a deeper oil pan, and a sleeker tail section with a new seat and tail light. Claimed output rose to about 105 hp. In contemporary group tests it finished just behind Yamaha's new YZF600R, praised for its linear power and easy handling.
