This was the in-house research bike that became the first Fireblade. Project leader Tadao Baba wanted a big sportsbike that was as light and compact as a 600, and the 750 cc prototype already had the aluminium beam frame, 16-inch front wheel and big swingarm of the later road bike. Honda then kept the bore but lengthened the stroke to reach 893 cc, so the 750 version stayed a footnote that was never sold.
