The CL400 was a Japan-market retro scrambler built around a 397 cc air-cooled four-valve single, and it revived the CL scrambler name. With a 19-inch front wheel, upswept exhaust and twin rear shocks, it was aimed at relaxed, stylish riding rather than performance. It ran almost unchanged until 2002, sharing its engine with the later CB400SS.
