The CR480R took over from the CR450R as Honda's big-bore motocrosser, with a bored-out 472 cc air-cooled two-stroke, larger 43 mm forks and magnesium parts to keep weight down. The 1982 version kept a four-speed gearbox and front drum brake. The bike gained fame in America when riders such as Danny Chandler and Steve Wise used it in the Superbikers series, an early form of supermoto.
