Launched in Japan in April 1989, the first CRM250R put a CR250 motocross look onto a road-registrable trail bike. Unlike the racer it used oil injection, a twin-ring piston and pillion pegs, and was tuned for usable low-down pull rather than outright power. It is a smaller, slimmer bike than its successors, which made it popular with shorter riders.
