The EXP-2 was an experimental Honda off-road racer built to test Activated Radical Combustion, in which an exhaust-port valve controls cylinder pressure so the two-stroke charge self-ignites cleanly at part throttle. This cut misfiring and hydrocarbon emissions while improving low-speed power. Honda proved the idea in the 1995 Granada-Dakar Rally, where the bike ran with much heavier four-stroke rally machines.
