The FT400 was a Japan-market, smaller-capacity version of the FT500 Ascot, built to fit Japan's 400 cc licence class. It used the same air-cooled four-valve single, frame, air-assisted fork and disc brakes front and rear as the 500, but with a shorter 64 mm stroke giving 398 cc. Its flat-track styling and electric start made it a simple, relaxed single for commuting and weekend riding.
