Introduced in March 1980, the GL1100 Interstate was the first Japanese motorcycle sold as a ready-to-tour package, with a factory full fairing, hard saddlebags and a removable trunk plus engine and luggage guards. It was heavier and less nimble at low speed than the standard GL1100 but quiet, smooth and very stable on the open road. Cycle World named it the best touring bike of 1980.
