The GL400 Custom was the American-style cruiser version of Honda's 400 cc liquid-cooled V-twin, sold mainly in Japan from April 1979. Compared with the standard GL400 it had a teardrop tank (11 litres instead of 17), a stepped seat, pull-back bars, an aluminium radiator cover and separate speedometer and rev counter. It kept the shaft drive and Comstar wheels of the standard bike.
