The GL400 was the 400 cc Japanese-market sister of the CX500, using a smaller-bore liquid-cooled 80-degree V-twin with pushrod-operated four-valve heads and shaft drive. It suited Japan's 400 cc licence class and offered a smooth, low-maintenance road bike on Comstar wheels. The 1979 bike was the original version with a single front disc, before the 1981 Wing update brought twin discs and air-assisted forks.
