The NC700X was the crossover member of the NC700 family, using the same economical 670 cc twin and dummy-tank storage bin as the S but with longer-travel suspension, a taller seat and adventure-style bodywork. Its relaxed, torquey character and very low fuel use made it a big seller in Europe, and Cycle World named it the best standard motorcycle of 2012. A manual gearbox or Honda's dual-clutch automatic were offered.
