The SP was the top version of the MC21-generation NSR250, the Japanese-market 250 cc V-twin two-stroke race replica. It sat above the standard R and the cheaper SE that Honda added in 1991, and it was expensive and built in small numbers. Power was set at the then-usual Japanese 45 hp figure.
