The ST1300 replaced the long-running ST1100 with an all-new design: a stiffer cast-aluminium frame, a more compact fuel-injected 1261 cc V4 with balance shafts and chain-driven cams, and fresh bodywork with an electrically adjustable screen (on ABS models at launch). It kept the shaft drive, integrated panniers and big tank, but was lighter and noticeably more powerful than its predecessor.
