The TLM220R replaced the TLM200R in 1988, with the two-stroke single enlarged from 193 cc to 216 cc for more mid-range torque, a heavier flywheel and a stronger, lighter-action clutch. It was the first Japanese production trials bike with a hydraulic front disc, and the rear shock gained adjustable damping. It stayed in production until 1994, when Honda stopped making road-legal trials bikes.
