The Shadow Spirit took over from the standard VT1100C for 1997, keeping the smoother offset dual-crankpin engine but adding more chrome, a street-rod look with a low seat, revised horn and exhaust layout and a cable clutch. It kept a 19-inch front wheel and drum rear brake. In comparison tests it was praised for smoothness and economy but rated behind the other 1100 Shadows for handling.
