By 2004 Honda had moved its factory World Superbike effort to the four-cylinder CBR1000RR, so the SP2 carried on as a road bike in the form introduced in 2002, with the larger 62 mm throttle bodies, lighter frame, longer swingarm and retuned suspension. The notable addition for 2004 was the US-only Nicky Hayden Edition, marking his 2002 AMA Superbike title, with a brushed-aluminium frame and swingarm, extra decals and white number plates on the nose and tail. Mechanically it matched the standard SP2.
