For 2001-02 the VTR250 carried on as a carburetted Monster-style naked bike, mainly sold in Japan and Australasia (Australia had official imports in this period). Mechanically it matched the earlier naked model: 249 cc DOHC 90-degree V-twin, five speeds, 41 mm fork and single 296 mm front disc. Its appeal was low weight, a slim build and easy handling for new riders.
