The original XL125 was Honda's small four-stroke dual-purpose bike, replacing the SL125 as a road-legal trail machine with a 21-inch front wheel, full lighting and a tachometer. Its OHC single was praised as quiet, clean, frugal and dependable, but road tests found it short of power and its rear dampers weak, so it was happiest on streets and smooth dirt roads rather than real off-road terrain.
