The XL185S was Honda's small dual-purpose single of the mid-1980s, sitting below the XL200R and XL250R in the trail range. Its simple air-cooled two-valve 180 cc engine, kick start and drum brakes kept it light and cheap to run, and the Pro-Link rear end and air-assisted fork gave it proper off-road ability for its size. It suited commuters, farm use and novice trail riders.
