The XL200R was a dual-sport single derived from Honda's dirt-only XR200R, with Pro-Link rear suspension and a long-travel air-assisted fork. Road tests of the time praised its easy starting, tractable low-speed manners and light steering, which made it a good first bike or a second bike for trails, though vibration and a narrow seat limited it on the highway. Both brakes on these early models were drums.
