The 1986 XL250R carried over the XR-derived twin-carburettor RFVC single and XR-style chassis introduced the year before, with tweaks to make starting easier and a new race-inspired graphics scheme. Testers found it strongest in the mid-range, light and agile on the road and on fire trails, though its soft suspension and dual-purpose tyres limited it in rough, fast off-road going.
