The XL400V was a Japan-only Transalp built to fit the 400 cc limit of the Japanese mid-size licence. It used a smaller 398 cc version of the 52-degree V-twin, shared with the Bros 400, in what was otherwise the XL600V's fairing, frame and suspension. It gave up power and torque to the 600 but was more economical, and it received a minor styling update in 1994 before being dropped in 1996.
