The XR185 was sold for the 1979 model year only, as a lighter, stripped-down off-road version of the XL185S trail bike with minimal lighting and a six-speed gearbox. It was aimed at enduro and trail riders and was well received in period tests, but its single-year run makes it a rare find today; it was replaced by the XR200 in 1980.
