From February 2008 the XR230 was sold in its JBK-MD36 form, with catalytic converters in the header pipe and silencer to meet Japan's 2006 emissions limits, revised carburettor settings and ignition timing for stronger low- and mid-range pull. Fuel economy improved to 43 km/L in Honda's steady-speed test, and the rims turned gold. It stayed on sale in this form until the CRF250 family took over in 2012.
