The 1979 XR250 was the first of Honda's XR250 line, a competition-oriented off-road version of the XL250S with a four-valve SOHC single. It ran a 23-inch front wheel, twin laid-down rear shocks and drum brakes, and a period road test rated it the best four-stroke 250 enduro bike of its day: tractable and comfortable, though heavier and less powerful than two-stroke rivals.
