The 1984 XR250R was an all-new design. It was more compact and lighter than the earlier XR250, and it used the RFVC radial four-valve engine shared with the XR200R and XR350R, with two carburettors working in stages. It also gained a front disc brake. Contemporary testers found it easy to ride in tight woods and economical on fuel, but less stable at speed and softly sprung for heavier riders.
