The 1987 XR250R carried on the 1986 redesign largely unchanged: a 249 cc air-cooled RFVC single with a single 30 mm carburettor, six speeds and kick start, in a light chassis with 41 mm air-assisted forks, Pro-Link rear suspension with about 11 inches of travel at each end and a rear drum brake. It was Honda's four-stroke trail and enduro 250 for riders who wanted easy, reliable power rather than motocross-level aggression.
