For its final year the XR350R got a substantially reworked engine borrowing ideas from the XR600R. A longer stroke took capacity to 353 cc, a single larger carburettor replaced the twin-carb setup, and the switch to dry-sump lubrication came with bigger valves and revised ports. The wrist pin also shrank from 21 mm to 19 mm. It remained a light, quick-steering trail bike, and 1985 turned out to be its last model year.
