The XR600R arrived for 1985 as the replacement for the XR500R, with the RFVC single enlarged to 591 cc and still air-cooled with a dry-sump oil system. Early bikes kept twin carburettors, a rear drum brake and a 17-inch rear wheel, with an aluminium swingarm on the Pro-Link rear end. It became the start of a long-running big-bore XR that Honda built until 2000.
