The second season of Honda's big air-cooled XR thumper, which replaced the XR500R in 1985 by growing the RFVC single to 591 cc with a bigger bore and longer stroke. Apart from graphics it carried over the 1985 package: twin 28 mm Keihin carbs, a new frame with a steeper head angle, a boxed aluminium swingarm, dry-sump oiling, a rear drum brake and an enduro clock. It was built as a durable all-day desert and trail bike rather than a sprinter, and won the Baja 1000 for the first time in 1986.
