The 1946 Chief was the post-war return of the 74 cu in sidevalve V-twin, with the skirted fenders and sprung rear introduced in 1940. It made around 40 hp, was strong on low-down torque and topped out near 85 mph. A four-speed box and smaller wheels were optional.
