A limited run of the Ninja 600R sold in the US in 1987, finished in black to set it apart from the standard bike. Its main change was an aluminium alloy frame, which the page says saved about 16.5 lb and, with less rake, shortened the wheelbase by half an inch for quicker steering. The 598 cc four-cylinder engine was carried over unchanged from the standard Ninja 600.
