The KDX 220R arrived in 1997 as a 216 cc enlargement of the KDX 200 on the same perimeter chassis, with a bigger bore but a smaller carburetor. The reviewer found it strong low down and softer at the top end than the 200, which made it a better trail bike than a racer.
