The KLE 400 was a 399 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin with a four-valve DOHC head and a six-speed gearbox. Its 41mm air-assisted forks and 220 mm of travel at both ends set it up as a dual-purpose machine. Compared with the 250 twin, it offered a larger engine and more power, at the cost of greater weight.
