The 2001-02 KLE 500 used the same 498 cc liquid-cooled twin, with four-valve DOHC, six-speed gearbox and 21-inch front wheel as the late-1990s bike. Its suspension and braking were unchanged on the page, with air-assisted 41mm forks and a 300mm front disc. It was sold as a dual-purpose machine for both road and off-road use.
