The KLR 650 is the 651 cc successor to the KLR 600, built with a box-section cradle frame, an aluminium swingarm and long-travel air-assisted suspension. This 1987-88 entry is based on a magazine feature in which journalists rode about 750 miles of Southern California dirt and pavement on it. The writer found it big and heavy but surprisingly capable, with some quirks on steep descents.
