The mid-1990s KX 500 was a 499 cc two-stroke motocross bike with an exhaust expansion chamber and a liquid-cooled cylinder. Compared with the earlier bikes it had a revised ignition and crank and a lower compression ratio after an early combustion-chamber problem. It carried over the 41 mm upside-down fork and the Uni-Trak rear suspension of the period.
