The 2012 Versys 1000 was Kawasaki's larger mid-size road-going multi-purpose bike, built around a 1043 cc in-line four with an aluminium twin-tube frame and long-travel suspension. It was aimed at solo and two-up riders for both daily use and long-distance touring. Its standout features were three-mode traction control, selectable Full or Low power modes and standard ABS.
