The 2014 Versys 1000 was presented as Kawasaki's first four-cylinder adventure-style machine, built on Z1000 engine and frame components but retuned for better fuel economy with wider gearing. It is a road bike rather than an off-road machine, praised for engine flexibility, agility, comfort and two-up use. Its weak points were the bouncy front suspension, early ABS intervention on rough surfaces and vibration above about 6,000 rpm.
