Kawasaki's first shaft-drive model, a touring-oriented version of the Z1000 MkII introduced as a companion to the Z1300 in 1978. It added a larger tank, fuel gauge, tubeless tyres and thicker fork tubes, and its tuned engine had a larger airbox. Reviewers praised its power and stability but criticised the rough ride, vibration above about 4000 rpm and the weight.
