The 2009 990 Adventure R is the top-spec off-road model in the range, replacing the S. It uses the same 999 cc V-twin tuned for more power, with about 55 mm more suspension travel, Brembo brakes and a taller seat. The review found it punchy and capable off-road, though the seat is less comfortable and ABS is not offered.
