The same lightweight two-stroke Freeride 250R in its 2016-17 form. It uses a 249 cc single tuned for smooth low-end torque, sitting on a perimeter steel and aluminium frame. KTM positioned it as an all-round trail bike that gets more capable as the terrain gets rougher, and a power-reduced road-legal version was also offered.
