The Classic was the first rotary Norton offered to the public, after the Interpol 2 had gone only to police and military buyers. Only about 100 were built in 1987, which makes it a sought-after collector's piece. It used an air-cooled twin-rotor Wankel from the BSA research programme, and period testers praised its smoothness and strong mid-range while noting dated handling and limited ground clearance. The liquid-cooled Commander replaced it.
